Blue Tit Information
Unfortunately due to rising costs we are unable to produce garden bird and bat boxes anymore.
The two most common tits are the blue tit and the great tit. They are bold and inquisitive little birds and do not mind when they are being watched by people.
Most tits like to nest in a secure place with a small entrance hole. Blue tits, Great tits, Coal tits and Marsh tits will all use a nest box.
During the breeding season the small birds will defend their territory against any bird of the same species but during the winter they become quite sociable and will in hunt for food in small mixed flocks.
The Blue tit is approx 11.5cms long and weighs 12grams they can lay between 6 and 15 eggs which are incubated for 14 days their breeding season is April to June. They feed mainly on insects and seed and their call is “tsee-tsee”.
The Great tit is the largest tit and is 14cms long and can weigh up to 20grams.
